Lectures & Work - International Students In UK

In the UK, the number of students who work while in college has increased by more than half since 1996-2006. As an international student, you can work part-time during your study in the UK. Many students use this opportunity to reduce the burden of the cost of living there, or getting work experience relevant to their field of study.

However, income from part-time work still can not cover all of your costs during college there, so you need additional funds for your college. It is important to understand the conditions in which you can work so that you can maintain your visa status. Let's look at the options to work in the UK as an international student.

Can I Work?

Are you able to work or not depends on your home country and you have a student visa. There is no limit to work for students from the European Union who studied in England.

If you are a non EU student and program your lectures more than six months, you need to have a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa. In some cases this visa allows you to take part-time work up to 20 hours during lectures starts and full-time work when the college holidays.

If you take graduate-level program, such as Bachelor or Master, not including foundations program then you can take part-time work up to 10 hours in college and working full-time as a holiday.

Type of Work Than I Can Do?

You are allowed to work anything other than running a business, entrepreneur or take a permanent career. You also can not work as a professional athlete or entertainer with student visas.

Typically, students work in trade or service. You also need to know the minimum wage working there for £ 6.50 (US $ 10.80) per hour or more.

Students who wish to volunteer internships need to find out from the organization if the job includes paid work or not. If so, then this will reduce the maximum time you work per week.

Once you get a job, you need to get a National Insurance Number and need to pay income tax to the British government.
